The EU Commission is phasing out Avgas 100LL by banning the import of Tetraethyllead (TEL), the additive that makes it leaded, which is crucial for piston engine aircraft. This ban, implemented in May 2025, aims to reduce emissions and promote sustainable aviation. While the ban is set for 2025, the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) has recommended extending the use of TEL for Avgas 100LL production until 2032, giving the aviation industry more time to develop alternatives.
